Add flat-rate AI features users love — without surprise token bills
Cook'n / DVO Enterprises
API-powered AI features for a 30+ year recipe organizer
The situation
The problem
DVO Enterprises has shipped Cook'n, a recipe organizer, for 30+ years. They wanted AI features users would actually love — without standing up inference infrastructure or betting the product on a surprise token meter.
How it usually works
Most consumer apps rent a hosted API and pay per token. Usage that users celebrate becomes a bill that finance dreads. Cost fluctuates with subsidy, rate limits, and whoever owns the model this quarter.
How we ran it
The same Courier software runs in the cloud at a flat rate. Cook'n ships recipe intelligence on Courier Cloud — production APIs without on our Mac Studio Cloud with a no-data retention policy and predictable flat-rate billing.
Strategy
Start from known user friction in the recipe product, pick a small set of high-value features, then go from there.
Implementation
Product strategy plus API integration: Cook'n wired into production AI APIs so recipe workflows could ship without an in-house inference stack.
Results
- Features shipped; users raved about them.
- Cook'n now processes over 250 million tokens on Courier Cloud.
